Today was one of THOSE days. Ye’know..
.. and basically everything that could go wrong, went wrong.
In days like these you often feel like everything is your fault and maybe you just suck. Without any real reason. That’s pretty much how I’ve felt most of the day. And actually I kinda feel like this right now. Annoyed by every little thing. Got an ich on my cheek? I’ll get pissed off by that!! And it’s the weirdest thing because when I think about it, everything is just fine. No! Even great!! I’m not hungry. I’ve got a home. I’ve got some amazing friends. And when I start thinking about all the awesome things I have, it just kicks sadness in the balls. I don’t even care anymore that this blog post is written really aWkwArd-ly graMmaTicaLly. You just have to get that ball rolling and you feel that the power of positivity is much stronger that negativity.
Now when I step back and read this blog post again it just sounds like a poorly written pep talk. But I guess we’re all just trying to figure out this “life” thing a step at a time.
So, in a nutshell - if you’re pissed off or sad, just put on your favorite track and start counting friends. And by the time you’ve counted even just one, you’ll already feel like you’ve got everything you’ll ever need.
So today was the day when I counted all the stuff I own. And to my surprise I discovered that I already own very little stuff. Yet I wanted to put up a challenge, so I lowered the limit to 50 objects.
And even then I didn’t actually have THAT much stuff to give up. Some t-shirts that I didn’t use. Some pants. Whole bunch of little things like several decks of cards, pokerchips, couple of posters etc. In that sense I’m really glad that I’ve already been able to keep my belongings to minimum.
But as promised, here is the list of 50 things I intend to keep:
1. 13” MacBook Pro
2. iPhone
3. Laptop bag

Take care, and keep it simple!
What is “The 100 Things Challenge”? Let me quote from Zen Habits:
“Could you cut your personal possessions down to 100 things?
Last week, in my Haiku Productivity post, I mentioned blogger Dave Bruno’s 100 thing challenge. It’s actually a challenge that I’ve seen in years past on other forums (see the rucksack guy’s 101 things – with photos), but Dave’s version is that he’s trying to cut his personal possessions down to 100 items.
Things not included:
I’ve always hated having too much stuff around. It’s a hassle to keep things organized and most of the time you just keep reorganizing things that you haven’t actually used for years.
Think about it. When was the last time you wore that forgotten shirt that sits in your closet or looked into your nightstand drawers. The fact is that we tend to collect stuff with the mindset that we MAY need those things some day.
The 100 things challenge makes you go through your stuff and re-evaluate what you ACTUALLY need to have and what you use on a daily basis. It also helps to cut down on consumerism. For each new item you’ll want to buy, you’ll need to sacrifice one previous item. So in that way it puts things in perspective and makes you understand what you really value the most.
So that’s why I’ve started the 100 things challenge for myself. I can already imagine it will be difficult to give up on some things, but I truly believe that once one can get pass the desire to own stuff (as it’s common to our society) only then can he or she grow mentally.
Alright, wish me luck. Next post will be the list of 100 things I’ll keep and some of the stuff I’ll give away. Anyone fancy joining me? : )
As of today I’m starting my own blog. Exciting, isn’t it? Although I do have a introductory-mini-portfolio site up at http://kuldar.kalvik.ee it became a bit too small and limited for me. So by moving all my stuff to here - at tumblr. As soon as I get the “A Records” or whatever changed I’ll point kuldar.kalvik.ee to this tumblr blog. I’m also doing a little visual refreshing. So long green and black, welcome red, yellow and green. Three of my most favorite colors. : )
What would you expect to find here? Well, let me rather tell you what you won’t find here. There will be no profound articles, discussing the innermost problems of our society. Most likely you won’t even find good English here since I’m not from US and my grammar might s-u-c-k.
So this blog will be nothing but my thoughts on stuff. Period. You may like it or you may furiously disagree, you may get bored out of your mind or you may start getting annoyed about all the may’s in this sentence - it’s all fine by me. I just wanted to make that really clear.
Anyway, enough of this babbling. This should be enough of a post to start a blog with. Right?
This is my personal blog where I write down any random thoughts about design, technology and life in general.
